Self-Care Isn’t Selfish

In light of the recent news of the coronavirus, many of us are spending more time at home and thinking carefully about our health and hygiene. Whether you’re a seasoned stay-at-home expert or new to working remotely, we all want our homes to feel safe, calm and healthy.

You work hard to care for your family every day, but don’t forget to take time for yourself. Self-care can improve your overall health, your outlook on life, and ultimately your ability to continue caring for the ones you love most.

In stressful and uncertain times like these, we’re reminded of how precious our good health really is, and why we shouldn’t take it for granted. Take stock of your habits and make choices that prioritize your wellbeing. The healthy choices you make can help strengthen your body and reduce stress, boosting your immune system to function more efficiently.

Self-care isn’t selfish, and intimacy expert Susan Bratton suggests using this time at home as a #selfcarequarantine. We’ve assembled some tips to make your days more enjoyable while keeping your body and mind healthy and active.

Intimate care is self-care

As you focus on your wellbeing, it’s important not to neglect your intimate wellness. Intimate health is vital to overall health, and the way you feel down there impacts not only your physical wellbeing, but your mental and emotional states as well. Feeling secure about your intimate health can boost your self-esteem and confidence, allowing you to live freely and without worry.

Good nutrition, exercise and sleep have positive effects on your entire body, including your V. Take intimate self-care to the next level by spending time getting to know your body, strengthening your pelvic floor with Kegels or intimate wellness devices, and caring for your delicate feminine skin with nourishing, pH-balanced products.

Focus on diet and exercise

This is good advice anytime! We’re all entitled to the occasional treat or day off, but staying active and eating well are essential to keeping our bodies healthy. Foods high in vitamins and nutrients help our immune function. It’s best to avoid junk foods and excess sugar, which aren’t supportive of immune health. It’s also important to stay well hydrated. Alcohol can suppress the immune system, so while a glass of wine may sound relaxing right now, water is your body’s best friend!

Keep a regular sleep routine

When your schedule is thrown off, you might be tempted stay up later or sleep in a little but sticking to your regular routine is important to keep your body’s clock on schedule. Avoid screen time right before bed, resist the urge to hit the snooze button in the morning, and reserve your bed for sleep and intimacy only. These habits help to teach your body that bed is a place of relaxation, so you can continue getting the rest you need to stay healthy.

Create a self-care sanctuary

Make your home feel like a relaxing getaway by making a dedicated space for self-care. Your home sanctuary can be whatever you want it to be. Stock up with your favorite bath products, candles and face masks for at-home spa treatments. Create a meditation station with comfy seating and music to calm your mind. Set aside room for a hobby that brings you joy, whether it’s reading, knitting, or dancing. The possibilities are endless!

With benefits for physical health and emotional wellbeing, remember that time spent caring for yourself is always worthwhile. You deserve it, and you and your loved ones will enjoy the benefits of a healthy, happy home!
